How Can I Help Develop MINIX 3 Further?

Like Linux, FreeBSD, Apache, Firefox, GNU, and many other free software projects, MINIX 3 is a community effort. Unlike some of the others, it is targeted at education, low-end systems (like $100 laptops for Third-World children), and embedded systems. It also is more focused on simplicity and reliability than on features and performance.

Help from users is welcomed. The most important thing you can do is help port additional software to MINIX 3.

The top four areas we need help in are:

1. More device drivers for common peripherals
2. Test programs for the kernel, POSIX, and utility programs
3. More application packages
4. Translations of documentation into languages besides English
